Arnulfo Pineda obtained his BS in 2003 from Escuela Agrícola Panamericana (EL Zamorano) at Honduras. After working for 4 years in the industry at Honduras, in 2008 decided to perform an internship at the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). At INHS, Arnulfo participated in greenhouse production systems and actively collaborated with medical entomology research. A year later, his interest in dairy cow nutrition took him to join Dr. Drackley’s group. During the first two years he participated in several studies associated with nutrition of dairy calves, later pursuing his masters in this area. The research work for his masters was to evaluate the effects of plasma protein-based products on the performance, intestinal permeability, morbidity, and mortality of stressed dairy calves. Currently, Arnulfo is working toward his PhD with Dr. Drackley and Dr. Cardoso as his advisors. His research work is focusing on energy intake during the transition period and its effects on production parameters and metabolic disorders, especially related fat mobilization and insulin resistance.
