I grew up on a crop farm in Hickman, KY and have been surrounded by agriculture my whole life. My past experiences led me to pursue a degree in agriculture from the University of Kentucky. I earned a B.S. in Animal Science with an emphasis on livestock and dairy in 2013. As an undergraduate student, I assisted graduate students with research projects in both dairy systems management and beef and sheep nutrition. The work I did during my Master’s degree allowed me to combine the two passions I developed as an undergraduate by studying dairy nutrition. My Master’s research focused on the effects of feeding an algae supplement on milk yield, milk components, and dry matter intake, the effects of supplementing rations differing in forage level with a live yeast culture, and a rumen pH bolus validation. I defended my Master’s thesis in January of 2015 and am currently working toward my Ph.D. in dairy nutrition at the University of Illinois. I am very excited to be a member of the Dairy Focus Lab and cannot wait to share my experiences and learn from an amazing group of students here.
