Biography

My name is Alexa Reavley, and I’m from Canton, Illinois, where my passion for animal agriculture began through raising beef cattle, swine, sheep, and draft horses on my family’s farm. I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, a minor in Food and Agribusiness Management, and the I-Dairy certificate. Initially aspiring to become a large animal veterinarian, my path shifted when I assisted with a dairy nutrition trial during my first semester on campus, which ignited my passion for the dairy industry.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to assist with a wide range of research trials within the Dairy Focus Lab. In addition, my work as a farmhand at the Dairy Research Unit has given me valuable experience in various aspects of dairy farm operations. I was also an active member of the Illini Dairy Club, serving on the executive board, and was honored to be selected as a 2024 Illinois Dairy Ambassador through Midwest Dairy. Furthermore, I competed as a member of the Illini Dairy Judging Team and participated in the Dairy Challenge Contest at both the regional and national levels.

These experiences have enriched my understanding and deepened my passion for dairy cattle, especially during the critical transition period. In the fall of 2025, I will begin my master’s degree in dairy cattle management at the University of Illinois while taking on the role of Assistant Manager at the Dairy Research Unit. I am excited to continue growing my knowledge, collaborating with peers, and working under the mentorship of Dr. Cardoso to make a positive impact on the dairy industry.
