Biography

My name is Fabiana and I am from Brazil. I received my B.S. and M.Sc. in Animal Science with emphasis on ruminant nutrition, both concluded at the Federal University of Lavras, Brazil. As an undergraduate student, I was involved in research and extension with a focus on improving performance in dairy cows. I always liked animals and my passion is to work with dairy cows, so I decided to improve my knowledge by starting the master’s program.

During my master’s degree, my research focused on the effects of protein level and methionine supplementation on the diet of dairy cows during the transition period. After my master’s degree, I had the dream of doing my PhD abroad in search of more knowledge and making use of new technologies. I am now in my first year as a PhD student in Ruminant Nutrition under Dr. Phil Cardoso.

I would like to conduct research, share knowledge gained, and assist farmers to improve the productivity and competitiveness of dairy farms. My interests are in the transition period, the impact of nutrition on metabolism, reproduction and health in dairy cows. I believe we need to understand much more about the complexity and importance of the transition period and the combination of metabolism, health and nutrition of the cows that are transitioning. I am excited to conduct research and be part of the Dairy Focus Lab.
