Biography

My name is Mary Miller and I am from Rockton, IL. I graduated in May of 2025 from the university of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a bachelor’s in animal science and the I-Dairy certificate. Like many within my major, I initially had the goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian, but after working as an undergraduate assistant in the beef nutrition lab my freshman year, I quickly learned that research is my passion.

During my time as an undergrad, I also worked on different trials within the dairy focus group. One being focused on calf nutrition and the other focusing on nutrition during the transition period. Through these trials I gained a variety of hands-on experience, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a researcher. I also participated in both the Midwest Regional and National Intercollegiate dairy challenges. These experiences not only further developed my understanding of the dairy industry, but also increased my eagerness to aid in the advancement of the industry through research that is applicable to the everyday farmer.

My experiences in undergrad not only created a strong passion for research but for the dairy industry as a whole. In fall of 2025 I begin my master’s degree in dairy cattle nutrition. I am eager to continue to learn and collaborate with Dr. Cardoso and my peers and make a positive impact on the industry.
