ST. CLOUD, Minn. (5/31/2018) —The 2018 4 State Dairy Nutrition and Management Conference is fast approaching on June 13 and 14 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Alltech’s June 13 pre-conference symposium will focus on how herds can achieve their genetic potential.
Four State conference speakers include Mike Van Amburgh of Cornell University, on ways to improve prediction of metabolizable protein. Ev Thomas, retired Miner Institute Agronomist, will talk on low lignin forages. Jim Barmore, GPS consultant, and Brian Forrest of Maple Ridge Dairy, will discuss how farms are achieving high production using low lignin forages.
Randy Shaver of the University of Wisconsin will discuss how herds are achiving high production with more forages. John Goeser of Rock River Labs will help make sense of all the fiber digestion metrics. Michigan State University's Adam Lock will talk about how different fatty acids affect cow performance.

- Nutrition aspects during the transition period (led by Dr. Phil Cardoso)
- Beyond IgG: Components of colostrum as metabolic modifiers
- Feeding practices for U.S. Jersey herds
- Integrating cover crops and livestock to improve profitability
- Feeding and management on robotic dairies
- Successfully supplementing fatty acids to fresh cows
The Canola Council of Canada’s post-conference symposium will include information on using canola meal in early lactation cows and in ration formulations and evaluating feeding finacials.
A trade show, evening receptions and time to network is included. Advanced Dairy CE and ARPAS CEU credits are available. This conference is a collaborative effort of Extension Services of Iowa State University, University of Illinois, University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin.
